The Australasian recommendations for the management of hepatitis C virus infection: a consensus statement has been updated following April 01 2020 changes to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme which have:

  1. Enabled Nurse Practitioner prescribing for HIV, hepatitis B in the community and hepatitis C in correctional settings,
  2. Removed the requirement to provide the hepatitis C virus genotype at the time of treatment initiation, and
  3. Removed the population criteria which stated that patient must be aged 18 years or older to receive treatment

To reflect these changes, and to meet the markedly different needs of online learners, ASHM has updated its suite of hepatitis C education and resources, highlighting the simplified processes for initiating treatment and providing care to patients with hepatitis C. Find out more below, and email education@ashm.org.au if you have any questions.
