POSTPONED to first half of 2021

ASHM has been following developments on COVID-19 closely, with a focus on ensuring the wellbeing of staff, stakeholders and the public. We also appreciate the additional strain being felt by the healthcare sector at all levels and, given the ongoing developments, ASHM has made the decision to postpone the 12th Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference that was scheduled for 16 – 18 August 2020 in Brisbane.

Following extensive review and consultation we have decided on a postponement to the first half of 2021 in Brisbane at the same venue. An exact date will be announced shortly. We believe that early 2021 will be a key time for the sector to meet and collaborate as it both adjusts to the longer-term impact of COVID-19 and continues its vital work in the fight against viral hepatitis.

Our consultation was with experts in the field, local health authorities, and people living with viral hepatitis, and our priority is the safety and wellbeing of delegates and our community.

Furthermore, many of those who were planning to attend, and were involved in the development of the conference program, are now working on the front lines in the response to COVID-19. We have a responsibility not to redirect their efforts at a critical time in the response to the pandemic.

Registered delegates will be contacted directly in due course, but we strongly recommend that you transfer your registration to the new dates. However, if you are unable to attend, registrations will be refunded. Requests must be received in writing to info@hepatitis2020.org.au.

Those who have submitted abstracts will also be contacted directly with advice on how to proceed.

In the meantime, our thoughts remain with patients and healthcare professionals affected across the world as the public health response to COVID-19 continues.

Thank you for your understanding during these difficult times, we look forward to seeing you in 2021. We’re also grateful to anyone who has contributed to our conferences in the past and welcome your input on those to come.
